Cold Shop Classes

Emphasis of our coldworking classes will be on safety, proper tool usage, and studio etiquette. All coldworking classes are limited to 4 people. Every student using SGAA's Cold Shop is required to be certified on each piece of equipment before being allowed to use our machinery without an instructor. Students are always required to use the Cold Shop with a partner. Please call our office with any questions.

***Every student who comes to participate in glass making classes is required to wear eye protection and closed toed shoes. No exceptions will be made!***

Coldworking Basics (CS 100)

Members: $45 Non-Members: $60

Saturday, 10am - 12pm (2 hours)

Faculty Instructor

Every SGAA student is required to take this class before using our equipment without an instructor; students are always required to use the Cold Shop with a partner. This class will teach students the basics of using SGAA's coldworking equipment to finish your projects. Learn to use our saws, belt sander, and grinding wheels. More class dates will be scheduled throughout the year.

Basic Sandblasting Techniques (CS 101)

Members: $45 Non-Members: $60

Tuesday, 6 -8pm (2 hours)

Faculty Instructor

This class will teach students how to properly mask and sandblast their glass art pieces. While one student is using the sandblaster, others will be preparing their pieces to blast. This class is good for Hot Shop, Flame Shop, and Warm Shop students alike!

Coldworking Refresher Course (CS 200)

Members: $40 Non-Members: $55

Saturday, 10 - 11:30am (1.5 hours)

Faculty Instructor

Every returning SGAA student is required to take this class or can take Coldworking Basics. This refresher course will review how to properly use each tool in our Cold Shop. By the end of this session, you will be SGAA certified to use the machines without an instructor, but with a partner.

Cutting Facets (CS 201)

Members: $100 Non-Members: $125

Monday, 5 - 9pm (4 hours)

Faculty Instructor

This class is for the student who wants to get more involved in cold design techniques. Students will learn to use the saw, belt sander, and flat lap wheels to create single or multiple facets in their work. Prerequisite: Coldworking Basics or Coldworking Refresher Course.

Advanced Coldworking (CS 300)

Faculty Instructor

Advanced Coldworking will teach the basics of cold carving techniques. Learn fancy carving techniques using wet saws, our new single arbor grinding lathe, and polishing equipment. Prerequisites: Coldworking Basics or Coldworking Refresher Course.
