When the Frit Hits the Fan
Members $625 Non-Members $650
Friday - Sunday, 10am - 5pm
January 13 - 15
Guest Instructor: Michael Dupille
Michael is considered one of the pioneers of kiln formed glass. He has developed many of the techniques and methods which are considered the standards in fused glass today. This workshop covers a variety of techniques and though it focuses less on imagery, much of what is taught may be utilized in creating depth in images. We will cover the basic practices of Fritography ,combined with unusual shapes and the utilization of dam methods. We will also explore several other ways of working with frit, including making "Frit Sticks", "Vitrios", and a new process called "Scratch and Frit". We think you’ll find these to be useful and fun to do... and that’s a tough combo to beat!
Open Face Tile Mold for Kiln Casting
Members $575 Non-Members $600, glass not included
Friday - Sunday, 10am - 6pm
March 9 - 11
Guest Instructor: Henry Halem
Learn glass casting with the man who wrote the book on glass, Henry Halem! Students will construct one plaster/silica mold from a clay model that they sculpt. Your piece will be limited to 10"x6", with a depth of approximately 1.5" (flat back). The mold will be filled using either a pate de verre technique or casting chunks. This is ideal for constructing large colored glass tiles or other sculptural objects. Class will cover all the technical aspects of mixing plaster/silica, mold construction, casting and annealing. Students will have to come back to pick up their pieces, as the 3-day class does not include annealing and cooling time. Glass is not included in your tuition; we will have a variety of chunks, frit, and powder for sale during class. Expect to pay $50-$150 for glass depending on color and piece size. No experience required.
