Furnace Glassblowing I

This class available for credit at the U of A and Pima Community College. Please note: students must register with both SGAA and their college. Our class tuition is in addition to U of A/PCC tuition.

Faculty Instructors

Learn the basics of traditional Italian-style furnace glassblowing in this semester-long, 100 hour class. Students will begin by learning to make paperweights and progress to blown forms. This course's instruction and demonstrations will focus on: design principles, basic skills in working molten glass, color application, cold working, and sandblasting. No prior experience required.

Furnace Glassblowing II

Faculty Instructors

Continue developing your furnace glassblowing skills in the Intermediate level class. Students will have plenty of bench time and continue learning about advanced color theory in glass, advanced color application and experimentation with intricate shapes and forms. Students will be encouraged to draw inspiration from historical and contemporary sources introduced in class discussions. Group critiques will aid in growth towards personal style. Prerequisite: Minimum of 50 hours of glassblowing instruction required.

This course is for those of you that want to jump in with both feet! Under the guidance of a faculty instructor, this intensive study will cover: basic skills in working molten glass, color application, cold working, and sandblasting. This class is designed for students at a beginner to intermediate skill level.

This beginner class is ideal for the busy professional! Over the course of four Sundays, students will learn the basics of furnace glassblowing and cold working, including grinding, polishing, and sandblasting. No prior experience required.

This class provides an opportunity for intermediate students to work on independent projects, exchange ideas with other students, and to develop personal style. An instructor will be on hand to offer guidance with technical questions. Students must have at least 20 hours of furnace glassblowing experience.
