Imago Dei Middle School

Imago Dei Middle School is an independent, tuition-free middle school for children of low-income families from Tucson neighborhoods.  Twenty-four students in the 7th and 8th grade recently received a comprehensive education in all SGS studios, for a total of 32 weekly sessions. Projects ranged from fused cacti sculptures to torchworked beads, blown glass ornaments, and mosaic stepping stones for their school’s community garden. Check out this Arizona Daily Star article about Imago Dei’s garden, where the mosaic stepping stones can be found.

Imago Dei Middle School students also recreated their school’s logo in mosaics. The final product was attached to the facade of their downtown building on May 18, 2014.

Check out this video which includes footage of Imago Dei Middle School students working on the mosaic project and interviews with SGS and Imago instructors.
